The “Repetition”

The “Repetition” series explore women’s history and mirrors. The women we see on the canvases came from an old era, they could be our grandmothers but they have no identity as eyes and fingertips (two unique identity factors of each human being) are hidden. They also hold mirrors in front of their faces to hide any expressions. In other words, they represent women in a general term. Not women of a special country or time.

The silver papers that cover the mirror surfaces let the audience to see a broken and vague image of their faces as well. The canvas used as a big old frame, inspired by “Qajar” era, and the image is broken in many ways to reflect the fact that women have been hurt and broken repeatedly in many ways throughout history and still they stood strong.
